Information on Standards Interpretation Process and Access to Final SIC Interpretations
Questions seeking interpretation of the current Canadian Organic Standards may be submitted by email to OPR-RPB@inspection.gc.ca. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) will review these submissions, categorize them appropriately, and forward them to the relevant Standards Interpretation Committee (SIC).
Depending on the subject matter, inquiries will be addressed by one of the following committees:
- Agriculture Standards Interpretation Committee (Agri-SIC): Provides interpretations for agricultural standards (CAN/CGSB 32.310 and CAN/CGSB 32.311).
- Aquaculture Standards Interpretation Committee (Aqua-SIC): Provides interpretations for aquaculture standards (CAN/CGSB 32.312).
The CFIA supports these committees by offering regulatory expertise and participating in meetings as an observer. Please note that the contact information of the inquirer is shared with the Agri-SIC administrator to facilitate direct communication, unless the inquirer specifically requests to remain anonymous.
The official and up-to-date SIC interpretations can be accessed at the following link: Click here
These interpretations serve as authoritative guidance on the intent and application of the Canadian Organic Standards. We strongly encourage all certificate holders to review them regularly to maintain ongoing compliance with applicable requirements.
